Tranquility Birthed by Sins.
By Z. Amraphel.
“brush my perturbed hair / and sing me a lullaby; / let the lyrics soothe my pained void. / tell me the mauve froth / that encrusts my gelid lips / is but leftovers from stale cotton candy—“
Electric Dreams by Candida Slater.
hold me.
i long for ineffable peace
and to achieve this impossibility
i need to know that all is aright.
place me on your warm lap.
brush my perturbed hair
and sing me a lullaby;
let the lyrics soothe my pained void.
tell me the mauve froth
that encrusts my gelid lips
is but leftovers from stale cotton candy—
that my dreamless eyes
are auspicious ornaments.
allow me to believe—
whilst my body grays
and my soul covets The Fire—
that my decision was correct;
it was right to seize my breath
and constrict my heart.
utter that it was okay
to spray-paint mahogany floors
with my hallowed scarlet rivers.
plead resolute reassurance
that the seditious, cerulean suvorexant
was veracious in its callous crusade.
whisper safety and bellow
the monumental embrace
which intends to spirit me away.
indulge in my final earthen wish;
tell me paradise awaits
its black sheep’s return.
for i yearn to graze
upon its heavenly plains
and be shepherded by Him.
my pitchy wool will decorate
your lap like wicked dark matter
betwixt astral bodies.
our gravitational force
shall unburden me from life—
immortality must claim me.
weep not for i will be at peace.
my woes will wander
and my Love will be mine again.
i’ll gaze from down below
and soak in His glee.
the horned fae folk will envy
the absolute ardor i pulsate
in brilliant devotion
to the one for whom i was made.
i beseech you, dear dim-robed specter
watch over me as i ascend
below into your place of origin.
make me conform to optimism;
belabor silver-tongued truths.
as i behold serenity forevermore
hold me.

Z. Amraphel, 26, is a fledgling author writing from within the inferno called Arizona. He currently attends school at the state university and works in a field that focuses on helping babies in need of cranial corrections. He spends his off-time wondering about existence through his writings with his Russian Blue named Rain cozily by his side. He wishes his mind wouldn’t wander into the lofty clouds above so often, but a dreamer is beholden to their dreams.
Artwork: Candida Slater is an artist working across painting, collage and print, bringing the same distinctive artistic eye to each medium. She works from her studio at Wimbledon Art Studios. At the heart of her practice is an exploration of the fragile balance between chaos and order, and the ephemeral, subjective nature of reality. You can find more about her here.
